Are you considering using granite tile or granite countertops for your next renovation project? Are you aware of the advantages and disadvantages of doing so? Read more to discover whether or not granite is the right material for your housing project…

Granite is becoming a popular choice when it comes to home improvement and remodeling projects. This is natural substance, which is often considered a bit more durable than other products created synthetically for the home. This particular substance is actually a type of rock that is considered to be igneous.

There are many different elements that are part of granite. First, you have the element of mica. There is actually just small amounts of this element contained in this particular substance. You can also find feldspar and quartz in this particular type of rock. The two most common types of home improvement and repair products available to home owners are granite Tile and granite Countertops. Here, you will learn more about these products.

What is Granite Tile Widely Used For?

There are many popular uses when it comes to granite tile. One of the most obvious uses is that in which an individual places it on the floors of their home. However, many individuals elect to place these tile pieces in and around the home in a more decorative manner. A good example is when one decides to integrate a fireplace in the home. Many may decide to use this style of tile around the front facing of the fireplace, as well as in front of the fireplace on the floor. There are many who choose to use this type of tile on the countertops in the kitchen and in the bathroom. This can really spruce up the appearance of a standard room. Many have even added tile created from granite around swimming pools and around Jacuzzis.

The Benefits of Using Granite for Tile and Countertops

There are many different benefits of using tile that is composed of granite for tile and countertops. One of the main advantages, we have already mentioned, and that is the overall durability of the product. The next advantage is, unlike other types of products used for coverings of countertops and similar areas; this product is resistant to scratches. Many, who choose to implement the use of a sealant on this type of product, have found that the granite actually experiences very little complication when it comes to stains. If you elect to granite tile in your home, you will find that it has a natural resistance to heat.

Disadvantages to Using Granite for Countertops and Tile

Now, as you can see, there are a number of advantages to using granite in the home. However, there are a couple of disadvantages that you should also be aware of prior to implementing this type of product in your home. First, the material that is required to create home pieces such as countertops is relatively expensive. This means not all people will be able to budget this type of material. In addition to this, the material is very heavy. This means that if it will be used on counters, the shelving and vanities that support it will need to be able to withstand the material. If they cannot do this, then it will become necessary to replace these items with products that can withstand more weight overall.

Conclusion

Granite tile and granite countertops may be a consideration if you are looking to remodel your home. There are a number of advantages to using this type of material which we have covered above. However, you should also consider the possible disadvantages as well when making your decision. If you want to make a change that will bring a whole new look and feel to your home, and significantly add more resale value to your home, granite tile may be right for your next renovation project.

Marble tile flooring can be a good alternative to hardwood flooring and it can also be inexpensive too. You can purchase it in a number of locations in a variety of different patterns and sizes.

Sometimes it is a good idea to replace the flooring that you currently have. Over the years your floor goes through quite an ordeal. This can leave it looking dull, chipped and damaged and it can be hard to repair. So replacing it is often the best idea and it doesn?t have to be as expensive as you think either.

Why Marble Floor Tiles Are Worth Considering

If you are thinking of replacing your flooring then marble floor tiles could be an option worth considering. They are stylish, easy to clean and they come in a variety of designs. For example, the tiles can either be rough or smooth and they often have a pattern on them which can include hand painted designs. Obviously the more complex the pattern, the more expensive the tiles will be, and the pattern which you choose will depend upon the room that you are placing them in.

For example, if you are placing the marble floor tiles in the kitchen you will want a pattern such as leaves or perhaps plain tiles are more your style. In the living room a nice swirl pattern on the tiles could go well. Take you time to know what effect you are after and look around at the options available to you before you make a decision.

You can purchase marble floor tiles from a number of different locations including local hardware department stores and on the internet. You should ideally measure the area where the tiles are going as they are usually sold in square feet and if you do not know what area you need to cover, you will not be able to purchase any.

If you do take a guess and you just purchase a rough number you could really end up regretting it. This is because if you purchase too little tiles and you have to go back to the store, they could very well have sold out of the tiles you purchased. That would mean that you have gaps where the tiling should be and it will mean all your hard work with the other tiles was for nothing. If anything always try and order too many, especially if they are patterned as then at least you have some spare in case the other ones chip or break somehow.

Overall marble floor tiles can be a good alternative to hardwood flooring but you really do need to ensure that you measure the room before purchasing any. They are easy to clean and they can be inexpensive too so they are certainly worth considering when you next look out for new flooring ideas.

When choosing a glazed floor tile, you need to consider the area in which they will be installed.

Of course it is important to consider color, size and cost but it is equally important to be mindful of the amount of wear and tear the tiles will receive.

Some tiles will handle little wear whilst others are industry strength and will stand up to thousands of feet traffic daily, like that at shopping malls.

Ceramic floor tiles are put through abrasion resistance tests and then classified according to their ability to withstand abrasion.

High traffic areas such as public lobbies, restaurants, shopping malls, airports and other commercial sites, require tiles with a very high resistance to abrasion, much higher than what you would require in your own home.

And outdoor areas like plazas, parks and courtyards will also need tiles that are specified as frost resistant and slip resistance.

As is it critical, to ensure that tiles around pools be slip resistance. And how many times have you nearly fallen on someone?s entrance tiles due to a lack of slip resistance. Many of the ceramic floor tiles available for the outdoors today, feature an abrasive “grit” added to the surface to assist in preventing slip.

For the outdoors, tiles should have low water absorption. Unglazed tiles or frost proof monoculture tiles are a good selection. Areas around the home such as patios, walkways, or swimming pool decks, must also have high slip resistance.

Areas that are used while wet, such as shower floors, saunas, and hot tubs, will require low water absorption and good slip resistance.

Each areas of your home needs to be considered separately for floor tiles, as different rooms and areas will have different needs.

Floors with direct access to the outdoors, as in entrances and some kitchens, will require good abrasion resistance as well as a moderate degree of slip resistance.

Floors in frequent use, such as kitchens, family rooms, and areas where chairs or equipment are often pulled across the floor will also require tiles with good abrasion resistance.

For those less frequented areas like dens and sunrooms, most of the floor tiles currently on the market should be suitable.

Floor is one part of the house that is are used the most during the day. There are many kind of material that we can use to cover the floor. We normally divide type of covering material into two types as follows:

1. Hard material such as marble, ceramic tile, granite etc.

2. Soft material such as carpet, rubber, wool, other mat that made from synthetic fiber etc.

Ceramic tile is a kind of tile that burned at the temperature about 1,100 degrees Celsius. This will make ceramic has advantage property in terms of strength (hardness), has more density, has high capability to carry weight and has rough surface which corresponds to the usage of floor covering. Meanwhile ceramic tiles used for covering wall are generally burned two times at temperature about 1,200 degrees Celsius. So they have less chance to shrink and also has capability to carry weight but probably less than ceramic tile designed for floor covering.

Ceramic tile has many different sizes:

- Square shape 4X4 inches to square shape 12X12 inches
- Rectangle shape 2X4 inches, 4X8 inches and 8X10 inches

There is another type of ceramic that has smaller size (about 5X5 centimeter) called mosaics, which generally have to be assembled into one bigger tile, range from 10X10 inches to 12X12 inches to use for covering floor/wall.

Ceramic tile has many pattern and colour, including flat pattern and the pattern that curved out from tile?s surface or come with set of pattern, which consist of 12-16 tiles per set. Ceramic tile generally has thickness about 6-8 a millimeters, which may vary depends on model specification and requirement of the company or factory when production.

How to choose

Choosing ceramic tile you have to consider about the area of your house that you are going to use with ceramic such as living room, which may need colourful and pattern ceramic tile or used in kitchen, which may need to have a bit slippery surface in order to be easier to clean or ceramic tiles used with the area outside the building should not absorb humidity and water.

If you have small room, you should not buy ceramic tile that has large size, which will make your room look not beautiful and you should have forward planning about how you are going to arrange ceramic tiles before you go to the shop to buy them.

When you are choosing tiles, you should try to arrange those tiles to see whether they can compatible to each other and has same shade of colour and pattern. You should also buy additional about 5-10% that exceed amount of your require for spare in case of damage during construction or replacement after damage when have been used for a while.

Detail of specification, model, color, pattern, number and quantity of ceramic tiles should be clearly indicated on the box. This should include date of manufactured and should indicate the grade of tiles so you can consider which type of ceramic that suitable for you room.

Traditionally, tile has been used in bathrooms and kitchens. Different tiles are used for backsplashes, counters, tub enclosures and floors. However, tile is now coming into its own. Home decorators are learning how to use tile to create a finished look on everything from ceilings to tables.

The basic belief is, ?if there is a seam, tile can cover it.?

Ceiling tiles often have an unfinished or rough look. While many homeowners are using tiles to fix ceilings in basements and old homes, they never look finished and neat. The metal seams, or the broken gaps that appear between the tiles.

Home decorators can use both vinyl back plastic faux tile or they can use kitchen tile to cover the seams. A concaved strip tile, normally made for edging, will give the seams a polished look.

Coarse terracotta style tile is great for adding texture and color to dark areas and recesses. Broken tile has been used to decorate old lamps, plant pots, frames, mirrors, and tables. Now, decorators are using broken chunks of tile to create mosaics on walls, to cover old window wells, and on doors.

Tile can be used anywhere that has traditionally been covered in wood trim. It takes a brave decorator to use tile with a bold creativity. Traditionally, glazed tile has been used on walls, stone on the floor. Now, a stone trim at the bottom of an entrance increase durability and adds an artistic flair.

Bull nose and half bull nose trim is perfect for trimming utility rooms and garage entrances. They increase durability and reduces cleaning time.

Counter tile and trim is as versatile as floor tile. It moves from walls to trim with ease. Marble and stone has the advantage of coming in a variety of colors and textures. It is more expensive, but a decorator may be able to buy scraps from contractors.

Tile excels on the patio. Its versatility and ease allow decorators to create curves and mold the patio around the natural landscape. Stepping the tile can also direct rain and water run off, protecting the landscape.

A good base is necessary for tile. However, careful planning allows decorators to lay a patio around trees and gardens. Today?s tile can be laid over virtually any surface. Tile can be safely installed over linoleum, concrete, and wood.

Another adventure home decorators have embarked on is 3-D tile. The tile manufacturers have been exploring with embossed tile for several years. Now, home decorators are working to pile tile on tile.

Layering tile on tile can be an easy way to add an artistic flair to a normally dead wall space.

The last venue for artistic people in the kitchen is homemade tiles. Many people make their own tiles to explore depth of perception, shape, and color. While homemade tiles are very easy to make, they are incredibly time consuming.

Creating tile takes patience, depending on the medium, material, used, the tile makers may need the help of a potter to prevent distortion or fragile tiles.

The beauty of tiles allow home decorators to add a unique flair to their home without making drastic changes to the interior.

Though it’s probably the biggest single surface in any room–and the last thing we see at night–the ceiling is often overlooked by home remodelers as an opportunity to differentiate a home during remodeling or redecorating projects. Yet 98 percent of all homes built today use plain white gypsum drywall for ceiling surfaces, according to a survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

That fact presents a unique opportunity for homeowners to create a warm, inviting, custom look and feel in their homes–for less money than they’d spend on some other, less visible remodeling projects.

Unique, Affordable Ceiling Products

Many new and affordable ceiling surface products are now on the market. Armstrong Building Products, a leader in the ceiling product industry, is one company that is committed to exploring the unique design possibilities for ceilings. Through the company’s many different lines of unique, wood-like ceiling planks, patterned ceiling tiles and textured ceiling panels, homeowners now have a wide range of ceiling redecorating options available.

Many of the new ceiling products on the market are well suited for homeowner installation, making a ceiling remodeling project surprisingly affordable for homeowners willing to tackle this kind of remodeling project. “We want customers to have high-end design, but for attainable prices,” says Bill Vaughn, marketing manager for the residential ceilings division of Armstrong. “Our WoodHaven? line, for example, gives the warm, cozy look of wood-grain ceiling planks for a fraction of the cost of a real wood ceiling.

WoodHaven ceiling planks are constructed from a medium-density fiberboard so they’re lightweight, durable and easy for do-it-yourselfers to install. A tongue-and-groove system is used to allow these ceiling planks to be installed over cracked or textured ceiling surfaces, making this kind of product ideal for use in older home’s where the existing ceiling surface is anything but ideal.

New Ceiling Tile Options For An Old World Look

For homeowners interested in capturing a bit of old world charm in their more modern homes, Armstrong also offers a collection of tin-look ceiling tile systems that replicate the look of centuries old pressed metal ceilings. TinLook ceiling tiles are actually made of mineral fiberboard, but are molded in a variety of distinct patterns that resemble the tin ceilings commonly found in upscale homes during the late 1800’s in America.

A quick visit to the paint department at your local home improvement center can easily customize these tiles to suit any home decor. Particularly popular among homeowners are faux finishes in bronze, tin or silver colors. Antiquing washes can also be used to accentuate the textures and patterns of the tin look ceiling tiles.

Tiles made from Granite as just as easy to install as your typical ceramic tiles, but the edges are different. Installing a solid counter top comprised of granite tiles can cost less than $30 for each square foot if done correctly. This includes all the materials you will need, or approximately the same cost were you to have a plastic laminate counter top installed by a professional. Granite tiles generally come in 12-inch square formats that come in a wide variety of selections for less than $20 each. Premium selections can, however, cost upwards of $50 per tile.

Granite is well known for offering a natural beauty, resistance to heat, durability in addition to permanence. Ordinary solid-stone counter tops can be extremely pricey, at between $65 and $100 per square foot, because of the provisions of the installation. Working with granite tiles instead can save quite a bit of money, and only entails a small amount of extra work.

The trickiest part associated with the installation of stone tile counter tops is managing to cut crisp, clean nosing, which is the front lip of the counter top. If you use a home-made jig, which is clamped to a tile saw, you can cut perfect 45-degree miters which make this difficult task significantly simpler. Also, when it comes to finishing off the gap that is on the backsplash portion of the counter, it would be efficient to try and use leftover tile trimmings from nosing cuts to save both tiles and money.

In addition to the tiles that you will need, you should also pick up all of the following:

? 25 lbs of thin-set mortar, which will cost you approximately $10.
? 5 lbs of un-sanded grout, to use in the tile joints, which will cost you approximately $5.
? A quart of sealer for polished-granite, which will cost you around $25.
? Fiberglass mesh tape, which will be used to take seams.
? ?? notched trowel, which will be used to spread the thin-set.
? A putty knife in either four or six inches.
? A margin towel, approximately 2 inches.
? A honing stone, which will soften sharp edges.
? Caulk that matches the color of the grout, in order to substitute inside corners.
? Plastic spacers, which will support the tiles in the backsplash.

If you?ve tiled using ceramic tiles before, granite will not be much different for you. You cannot score and snap granite like it is possible to do with ceramic tiles, but using a diamond tile saw you can cut through granite tiles without much difficulty. Aside from that, you will use all of the same tools and materials, so having ceramic tile experience will be especially helpful.

I have been getting a lot of requests lately to write an article on soundproofing a wood or tile floor in an upper apartment or condo unit. The solutions are pretty simple if you’re installing wall-to-wall carpeting, but things get a little more complicated when you’re dealing with hardwoods, ceramic or vinyl flooring. To begin with, when a manufacturers STC (Sound Transmission Class) claims appear to be too high always read the fine print. Generally they mean that you can only reach this high STC value in conjunction with a myriad of other products that must to be added to your floor or ceiling assembly. For example, if you’re looking at ?”cork as a floor underlayment and the manufacturer claims that it will give you 55-57 STC, keep in mind that this value will only be attained with at least 3 inches of gypcrete (light weight concrete) poured overtop of the existing sub-floor and most likely the addition of a couple of layers of cement board (Hardy or Wonder board) will be needed as well. All of the STC values of these products are additive and so the manufacturer makes his claim hoping you won’t read the fine print.

Even though these values are additive, there is always the law of diminishing returns to contend with, so you still may not reach your STC goal even though it says you do on paper. Many times the call out for a floor or ceiling assembly is such that ceiling below must be floated on sound clips and furring channels or resilient channels in order to obtain the 55-57 STC values that some manufacturers claim to get from their product. Basically, no soundproofing product on it’s own will give you a 55-57 STC value. If you find one that does, please let me know and I’ll get it on the website immediately. There are no magic formulas. What it boils down to is simply this, very few products on the market today can give you an STC value greater than 32 to 35 STC on their own, and thus these high STC claims are very misleading to say the least.

I had a customer who told me that a 1/8″ cork mat would give him an STC rating of 55- 57 when laid beneath carpet and pad. I smiled and had him show me the cut sheet (spec. sheet) for the cork. The sheet called for the addition of a poured gypcrete sub floor and numerous other items that I can’t recall off hand, that were needed in order to meet the 55-57 STC. Needless to say, he was shocked. Its back to that old adage, if it sounds too good to be true, it is! That being said, the absolute best way to soundproof an upstairs unit from a lower one is by floating the ceiling in the lower unit using sound clips and furring channel (hat channel).

This is the most common method used by contractors who have done any type soundproofing in their careers. This method, though more economical than the sound clips system is only about ? as effective and is generally installed improperly even by the most competent of contractors. The difference in cost for the sound clips and furring channels is well worth it to effectively soundproof a ceiling from impact or airborne noise from above. Now there are other materials that can be placed over the sub floor above that will help stop impact noise as well as block most airborne noise from below or above. One is called American Impact Pro and the other is American Impact Standard. These recycled rubber products that are specifically designed to be installed underneath hardwood and tile floors. They will also work well under carpet and padded floors.

When dealing with a hardwood floor, you can also use a product called America’s Best, which is a mass loaded vinyl that is bonded to a layer of ?” closed cell foam mat. This material will provide a certain amount of floor resilience that’s prevents much of the impact noise from traveling downward, however the only way this system will work properly is if the wood planks are at least 6′ in length, it is also preferred that planks be interlocking on the sides. Mass loaded vinyl with foam backing is a resilient product and will allow the new hardwood floor to actually flex when walked on. This resilience adds to the footfall protection to the ceiling below. Long planked wood floors are the only hard surfaced floors that will work with America’s Best vinyl. Other floors such as vinyl or ceramic tile or Pergo floor systems will not work with this product as these surfaces will have a tendency to separate or crack.

Finally, if your condo or co-op association board has a call out for IIC (impact isolation coefficient) then you will need to call a professional to discuss the procedures you’ll need to follow in order to meet that particular IIC call out. Impact isolation is a whole other chapter in the Soundproofing Bible and will have to wait until next time! Thanks for reading and learning about soundproofing a wood or tile floor.

Simple bathroom tile design ideas

One of the most difficult decisions that face you when you are remodeling your bathroom is the design of the ceramic tiles. Not only do you need to decide on the color and patterns on the tiles but you also have to consider how much of your bathroom you’re going to cover with ceramic. There are so many different variations of all this that it can get pretty overwhelming. I was recently faced with this problem with my own small bathroom remodel and I’m going to tell you exactly how I solved it.

Bathroom ceramic tile coverage

Ceramic tiles vary considerably in price and it’s easy to limit the coverage in your bathroom if you think that it’s going to be too expensive. I shopped around for tiles a lot and found a very reasonably priced line of ceramic tiles that were very similar to a lot of very expensive ceramic tiles that I’d seen. It definitely pays to spend time looking for the right tiles at the right price.

Because the ceramic tiles that I’d found were a good price I was able to afford to tile all the walls of my small bathroom from floor to ceiling which is what I’d set my heart on. I saved a little by not tiling the wall behind the bathtub that wasn’t going to be seen. I’d looked at a lot of bathrooms by then and I knew that bathrooms that are tiled 100% look much nicer than those that aren’t.

Ceramic tile design for small bathrooms

I have a small bathroom and not only is there a lack of space but little bathrooms can also feel small and cramped if you get the design wrong. The trick is to give your bathroom a light airy feeling. Plenty of light helps and so does a mirror or two on the walls. Choosing a light colored ceramic tile was the key to opening up my small bathroom because it reflects the available light and gives the impression that the room is larger than it really is.

Mosaic bathroom tile design

My first ceramic bathroom tile design idea was to use a bright white smooth tile throughout. This would have lightened up the room but I had the feeling that this would be overdoing it a bit so I looked at ways that I could break it up a little while keeping the same light and airy feel to the bathroom.

I eventually found a mosaic tile design that came in several pastel colors. The tiles were normal size so they were just as easy to fix to the wall but the surface of the tiles look like small rectangles raised a little from the surface to give a mosaic look.

I chose 2 colors, white and a light sky blue pattern and used about one third blue and two thirds white. The blue tiles were set at the lower part of the walls and look a little like the sea. This was a very simple but effective design.

Bathroom shower tile design

You don’t have to stick with the same arrangement of ceramic tiles in the shower but it’s good to use the same colors and stick to the same theme. I used the blue tiles to form a triangle with the peak in the corner of my shower. This has the effect of drawing you into the shower and making it look more inviting.

I hope that you enjoyed this article and maybe I’ve given you a few ideas for your bathroom tile design and remodel.

Interlocking wood decking tiles or patio pavers are rapidly becoming a very popular product for quickly and easily covering drab concrete patios with an attractive solid wood surface. They have the big advantage that you don’t need to rip up the old concrete and can simply lay them over the top, without any special surface preparation. And the beauty of these convenient patio pavers is that you don’t need to be an expert handyman and you won’t need a special set of power tools to install them. They just click together like a jigsaw puzzle.

However there is now a increasing number of manufacturers offering such products, so making an informed choice between what’s available is becoming more difficult. In this article, we discuss some of the main features of the tiles that you probably should consider before making a final decision on which tile would suit you best in your particular circumstances.

Wood species This is probably one of the most important aspects in choosing a decking tile. Ideally you would choose a wood species with the highest natural durability, but there is the colour aspect to consider as well. Wood species can range tremendously in colour, from light straw through chocolate browns to deep orange red colours. But based on durability considerations alone, then one of the most durable and hard wearing species is undoubtedly Ipe wood from South America. Under this there are then a number of other wood species also from South America and a few from Southeast Asia. Rather than listing all the individual species, we suggest that you check the durability and other characteristics from an authoritative web site such as the USDA Forest Service at http://www2.fpl.fs.fed.us/Menu.ssi . Note that some species, although they may be durable in respect of climatic considerations, may still be subject to insect attack such as termites which could be an important consideration in your particular region.

Other considerations when choosing the wood species of course are whether the wood has been responsibly harvested or comes from managed forests.

Wood thickness Most tiles on the market use wood slats which are approximately 5/8″ (15mm) thick. Some manufacturers supply tiles with 3/4″ thick slats and others with ?” thick slats. The product you choose to some extent depends on the location where you intend to lay the tiles. For interior situations such as basements, covered patios and other areas not subject to extreme weather conditions, then the ?” thick slats maybe entirely suitable. However in areas with more extreme climatic variation, we would suggest that the thicker wood is a better choice.

Plastic base composition Plastic tile bases may be made of many combinations of plastic including polypropylene, polyethylene or other plastic materials. Whilst different manufacturers have their particular reason for choosing a specific plastic compound, the main considerations you should be aware of are the brittleness of the plastic, the low temperature characteristics (if you happen to live in a very cold area), and the UV stability of the plastic used. The latter point is extremely important as unless a plastic product used in exterior conditions contains a UV stabiliser, it can degrade very quickly.

Interlocking mechanism Broadly speaking, there are only two types of interlocking mechanism used on decking tiles currently in the marketplace. Firstly there is the type that has female connectors on two sides and male connectors on the other two sides. Generally speaking, the female connectors are a series of loops which mesh with the pins on the other two sides. The other type of locking mechanism is completely symmetrical so that any side of any tile will lock with any side of any other tile such as SwiftDeck tiles from http://www.swiftdeck.com. The disadvantage of the loop and pin style is firstly that it requires a bit more thought in laying the tiles as you must effectively only start in one corner of the area to be covered and keep on moving from that corner. It is difficult to install or remove one of these type of tiles in a central area without disrupting at least three of the tiles around it. The other problem is that on the outer edge of final row you will have one tile with loops on the edge and the next tile with pins on the edge.

There are also tiles on the market which are effectively one way connectors. Once you click the tiles into position, you cannot easily lift them up again. Whilst this may not be a disadvantage if you have no intention of changing the tiles at any time, it does limit your options if you intend to move your home or if you wish to change the design of the deck. The other problem with the loop and pin design is that if the manufacturer provides an option of clip-on transition strips, then you need two types of these - one which will connect with the pins, and one which will connect with the loops. And similarly if corner transition pieces are supplied as an option, then you also need two types of these as well.

Availability of different designs Some manufacturers only supply one design of deck tile, generally with four slats of wood running in the same direction. Sometimes there is an option of a five or six slat tile. With other manufacturers you may have an option of more than one design. The advantage of this is that you can then mix and match the different designs to make attractive borders, centrepieces etc.

Optional accessories If you are using the tiles to cover an existing concrete patio, you would probably have at least one open side. Thus on the final row tiles, you would be able to see the plastic base and the connecting pins unless they are hidden somehow. Some manufacturers therefore provide clip-on transition strips which also have the advantage of reducing the danger of shipping on the outer row of tiles. Corner transition strips are also normally available from such suppliers for the external corners.

This covers the main design and material factors that you should consider when choosing a wood decking tile / patio paver. Of course as well as the above factors you would probably also want to take into consideration the price of the tile, the warranty being offered, any trial period being offered, the after sales service, return policy etc.
